Rev. Douglas Rollwage

Rev. Douglas Rollwage is in his 28th year of pastoral ministry in The Presbyterian Church in Canada. A graduate of Queen's Theological College and Knox College, Douglas has served Strathcona Park Presbyterian Church, Kingston, Ontario, Guildwood Presbyterian Church, Toronto, Ontario, and currently Zion Presbyterian Church, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

A deep love of, and respect for Scripture has made Bible study a cornerstone of Douglas' ministry; he regards indepth (and entertaining!) Bible study as a forum for congregational discipleship and leadership development, as well as a strong source of community outreach and church growth.

Douglas has had the privilege of leading many congregants, clergy and students on archaeological, historical, and biblical pilgrimages to Israel, as well as to Greece and Turkey. Encountering the events of the New Testament and words of Jesus, Paul, and others "on site" has proven inspirational and transformational. To see people coming alive to their faith through study, sermon, or pilgrimage is the great motivating joy of Douglas' ministry.

Douglas is indebted to his wife of 33 years, Dana (a public school teacher). They have two adult children, Hannah (a musician), and Jacob (a student).

As Moderator of the last General Assembly, Douglas brings to us today his insight into our theme of "Personal Renewal".

Rev. Matthew Ruttan

Rev. Matthew Ruttan has a motto these days: "A pulse doesn't mean you're alive." What gets Matthew up in the morning is a desire to help people live out their faith in practical ways today. Oh, and also his alarm clock and three kids! They want breakfast!

What he likes most as pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Barrie, Ontario, is seeing the Holy Spirit at work, an openness to try new things, and the healthy evolution of a real church with real and faithful people. He also serves on the national Church Doctrine Committee. In 2015, he served as the Teen Week Chaplain at Glen Mohr Camp, and received an award for "Best Blog" by the Canadian Church Press. You can read his blog at www.MatthewRuttan.com. Matthew also writes a daily devotional called "Up!" In 2016, he enjoyed leading a workshop at the Canada Youth conference to young leaders. Plus, he has had a variety of articles published by These Days magazine and The Presbyterian Record.

Matthew believes…

  • In prayer and that humans do have wings (they're called knees)
  • That the castle of your character is built one brick at a time
  • That if you have a life-changing faith your faith should be changing your life
  • And that you can't lead from the middle.

Jesus came that we might have life and have it "abundantly" (John 10:10). So we should live each day like that is actually true.
