What is God’s holy will for those in the Presbyterian Church in Canada who adhere to an authentic reading of Scripture? That is the question on our minds as we present this year’s Renewal Fellowship annual gathering online on April 25. While we wait patiently for direction, we are confident that the church won’t die. More positively, we know that we have a future. Keynote speaker Rev. Jonathan Hong, English-language lead pastor at Toronto Korean Presbyterian Church, will be attempting to inject some hope into this climate of uncertainty. His message will be entitled, “Where we are, how we got here, and where do we go from here?”
For decades, there has been significant disagreement in The Presbyterian Church in Canada over the way we view and interpret Scripture. The proposals heading to General Assembly to redefine marriage and to legitimize the ordination and call of ministers and elders in same-sex relationship represent a tipping point for many in orthodoxy. For many, there are three options: stay and pray as long as we are allowed to adhere to traditional beliefs and practice, leave the PCC, or seek a formal division within the denomination in which those in orthodoxy and those who favour change can operate without interference from one another. Where do we go from here — indeed!
The Renewal Day will start at 11:00 a.m. EDT on Saturday, April 25, 2020, with worship and Jonathan’s talk, followed by a question and answer time. The Annual General Meeting will begin at 2:30 p.m. EDT and will include reports from staff and the Board of Directors, and consideration of the 2020 spending plan. This event, delivered by Zoom Webinar, will be the first time the Renewal Fellowship’s Renewal Day and Annual General Meeting will be held online. We are grateful for those who registered for the Huntsville event. They will be contacted individually by email about the fee that they paid.
Registration is $20 to be received by 11:30 p.m. Friday, April 24. Instructions on how to connect online with the Zoom Webinar will be given when you register. Visit this page to register securely online using
